Trinidad Police Shoot And Kill One Man During Shootout

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago, March 16, 2020 (CMC) – Police shot and killed one man and are searching for two others, following a shootout in Morvant, along the east west corridor, early today.

They have identified the man killed as Brandon Rojas, 26, who is reported to have been among a group of men liming in the area.

The authorities said that the members of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) were on patrol and, on approaching the men, one of them pulled out a gun and shot at the officers.

The police returned fire, hitting Rojas several times. He was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital, where he died, while undergoing surgery.

Police say they are searching for the two men, who ran away, following the shootings.

So far this year, more than 10 people have died, as a result of confrontations with the police.
