Keep Bothersome Bugs At Bay

NC – Warm sunshine, fresh air and grass that’s finally green again: it’s the perfect combination to lure us outside after a long winter..  However, the shooing and swatting always seems to start after just a few minutes outdoors, and can quickly turn enjoying nature into aches, pains and itches.

Bugs that bite and sting do more than ruin summer fun, they can cause skin irritations and serious allergic reactions, spread diseases and can lead to infections. The experts at leading pest control company, Orkin Canada, offer the following tips to keep these bothersome bugs at bay:

• Mosquitos, bees and wasps are often attracted to dark colours. Stick to light coloured clothing, but stay away from bright or floral prints, which look like delightful meals for pollinators. Also avoid tight clothing, as most pests can puncture right through fabric.

• Eliminate standing water. Mosquitos thrive during the summer months because they have plenty of access to moisture to breed – often right in your backyard. This includes pet water bowls, plant pots, ornamental pots and bird baths. Reduce as many sources of stagnant water as possible.

• Work to keep these pests outdoors. Install window screens and seal any cracks and crevices in your home’s foundation to help prevent easy entry. If your property is prone to wasps, work with your pest control provider to develop a comprehensive management program which should run from spring through late fall.
